Parish Church St. Anna - Services
The parish church of St. Anna is located in the center of Hirschegg, Dürenbodenstraße 1. You can find the contact details of the parish association here.
In 1570, a chapel was mentioned in Hirschegg, which was then changed and remodeled several times. The first time we find the name of the place in the year diary 1499, where it is documented: ... located at hierßegg, there the image stands. As "image," a wayside shrine or a small chapel is to be understood. In 1745, Hirschegg was raised to a chaplaincy. The mother parish of Mittelberg originally raised vehement objections. Ultimately, the bishop of Constance decided that the pastor had to acknowledge the appointment of a curate.
In 1767, the chapel received a new tower. In 1782, the people of Hirschegg petitioned for release from the parish of Mittelberg. This was not agreeable for various reasons, primarily due to the loss of fees and other monetary contributions. The elevation to an independent parish took place in 1792. For the faithful, this eliminated the long and dangerous church paths to Mittelberg.
In 1804, the foundation stone for the new church was laid. In 1806, the current house of worship was consecrated by the bishop of Constance, Ferdinand Count von Bissingen. The Walser artist Maximilian Seelenmayer created "The Last Supper" in the choir arch in 1837, and in 1907, extensive interior decoration took place. At that time, Xaver Dietrich, a student of Prof. Ritter von Feuerstein, painted the murals in the choir arch, in the nave, the gallery ceiling, and the four corner medallions of the church fathers. In 1987, the church square was redesigned.
Noteworthy is the village fountain adorned with bronze reliefs. On the eight basin walls, there are depictions of sayings in the Walser dialect.
