How can we reduce our company's ecological footprint and save natural resources? Many businesses ask themselves this question. We at Kleinwalsertal Tourismus are accompanied on our way to climate neutrality by Ökoprofit. Ökoprofit is a certificate for corporate environmental and climate management and is very widespread in Vorarlberg. The aim is continuous improvement in the ecological areas of sustainability.

In the run-up to certification, we collected data on waste management, energy and mobility. A major topic in our work is how we design and advertise tourism products. We have already set the right course here in recent years, for example with our printed materials.

This means that practically only printed works with timeless content are produced. New prints are only produced when the stock has been used up. This means that there is no leftover stock that has to be disposed of. In addition, only print shops with the shortest possible travel distances are selected as partners, if possible even from the valley.

At events, we have always attached great importance to involving local service providers, providing a stage for regional food and offering environmentally friendly transportation options to the event. In future, we want to sensitize even more partners, locals and guests to the fact that it is also possible to celebrate in a sustainable way.

But we are also focusing on the further development of sustainable mobility for vacation guests: For many years, vacation guests with a guest card have enjoyed free travel on the Walserbus within the valley. This has helped to minimize individual car traffic. In the future, the aim will be for guests to leave their cars at home for the entire duration of their vacation or even arrive car-free. Kleinwalsertal Tourismus also encourages its own employees to use public transport, provides them with e-bikes and offers the job bike.

And then, of course, we also have responsibility for our greatest tourist asset, the natural environment. It is clear to us that the natural environment is the basis for everything we do. That is why we have created a comprehensive concept for visitor guidance and nature education with the "Experience nature consciously" initiative.
The aim is to prevent ecologically valuable areas from being negatively impacted by recreational use. To spread the word, we have created various means of communication, such as a code of conduct, signage concept and cooperation with outdoor platforms. Rangers who go into the area and partners in the destination, such as trained hosts, also serve as a mouthpiece.
